About Our Club

        2023 was a hugely significant year to The WELLAND LIONS CLUB. We celebrated 100 Years of Service! Welland Lions are proud to be a part of the largest membership-based service club organization in the world.
 

         From its inception in 1923, dedicated members of the WELLAND LIONS CLUB took the LIONS motto “WE SERVE” literally. With the chaos of World War I behind them, the membership literally rolled up sleeves and began identifying causes most near and dear to their community. Sometimes it literally meant digging holes to rebuild a collapsed fence for a neighbor in need. More often it meant roaring through the city, raising funds for projects to purchase Hospital and Fire Fighting Equipment, supplementing the shelves of our Food Banks, building cottages at Camp Dorset and a lot more.

 

          Welland Lions earned a TOP DOG designation due to our success in bringing Guide Dogs into our community. With the understanding that we can’t do everything this club chooses to focus its efforts on Diabetes, Sight and Youth. That does not preclude our attention from Lions other work in Childhood Cancer, Children with Dialysis, the Environment, Disaster Relief and more.

So here’s what we do do; have done
    • Host an Annual Golf Tournament to raise funds to purchase Service Dogs.
    • We run raffles to raise funds to support our local Food Banks.
    • We sponsor youth organizations like Welland Minor Hockey.
    • We helped send the entire cast of a production by Welland Centennial High School to Parliament Hill to perform their original production of “WE ARE THE WATER”.
    • We collect glasses and hearing aids to recycle worldwide.
    • We collect electronic waste to recycle.
    • We attend OLG sponsored events to bring our fair share into the community.
    • We volunteer our time with other clubs who support the same causes.
    • We support our Veterans, not just with donations to the Poppy Fund, but with respectful attendance on November 11th Ceremonies.
    • We attend conferences, Seminars and Municipal Events to keep in touch, learn and grow.
